Panda stopped at the Mark Twain cabin (Only Version)

Panda had been happy to come along for the men’s weekend in the Sierras, even though she knew she wasn’t allowed to participate. Being a girl panda, she understood that the men needed their own time to bond, heal, and build community together. Panda was perfectly happy to give them that space. She waited in the car surrounded by beautiful trees and stars at night.

She was, however, enjoying the ride home with everyone.

As we drove, we suddenly saw a sign for Mark Twain’s cabin. There wasn’t really enough time to discuss it. Somehow, without anyone saying much, we all seemed to make the decision together—as if through some kind of group telepathy.

We turned.

Panda was immediately excited. Mark Twain’s cabin! Surely there would be something interesting to see.

When we arrived, though, Panda’s excitement faded a little.

First, it was just a single cabin with surprisingly little fanfare. And then came the bigger disappointment: it wasn’t actually Mark Twain’s cabin. It was a cabin built about sixty years later as a commemoration of him.

Well… that was not quite what Panda had expected.

Still, she wasn’t going to pass up the opportunity for a photograph. She climbed onto the crossbar of the metal fence surrounding the cabin and posed for a quick picture.

“Panda stopped at the Mark Twain cabin.”

And with that, she climbed back into the car and joined us for the rest of the drive home.

It may not have been Mark Twain’s actual cabin, but it was still a fun little unexpected stop on the way home—and sometimes Panda’s adventures are as much about the spontaneous detours as the destination.
